History of the Byram Fire
Department |
| |
The Byram Township Volunteer Fire
Department was established in 1948. It all started
when a few men got together at the local tavern, called "Tamaracks".
Tamaracks was located where the Weichert building stands today at the corner of Tamarack road and Rt. 206.
These men created the Cranbury Lake Fire Department. The original fire house was located where the Byram U-Store stands today next to the Adam
Todd. That fire house burned down. Ironically Andover Fire Department
was called to fight the blaze. The Fire
Department covers the entire township, which is
approximately 22.5 square miles.

A Byram fireman named Jack Grover
was friends with the comic that created Smokey Stover. Smokey Stover was a
popular comic strip, and that man agreed
to let the Byram Twp. Fire Department use his creation as the logo.
