Mutual Aid Ice Rescue Drill

On a frigid (6 Degrees) Sunday Byram Twp Fire department, Stanhope Fire Department, Stanhope-Netcong First Aid, Netcong Fire Department, and Allamuchy Fire Department headed to Lake Musconetcong where they tuned their ice rescue skills.

Personnel took turns going through stations of self rescue, Rescue Alive Sled rescues and Marsars Shuttle rescues.  With the spill way next to where the drill was held, an additional station was set up towards the end of the drill to practice open water rescue operations.  New comers were brought out to experience what is was like to fall through the ice


In all about 40 emergency personnel participated.  All were invited back to the Stanhope Fire house after for a drill debriefing and a warm meal.

Briar Lane Motor Vehicle Accident
Byram Twp. firefighters along with Lakeland EMS were dispatched to Briar Lane in the Brookwood section of town for a 2 car motor vehicle accident with entrapment. 

First arriving units updating incoming units all occupants were out of the vehicle. crews got on scene and stabilized the vehicle that was hanging off the cliff and applied speedy dry for a small fluid spill on the second vehicle involved.

No injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation by the Byram Twp. Police Department.

Lake Lackawanna Shed Fire
As the firefighters from Byram Twp were gearing up for the annual santa tour around town, the tones dropped alerting to a shed on fire in the Lackawanna section of town.

Crews arrived in minutes and made quick work of the fire. The quick knock helped to eliminate a lot of damage to the structure and equipments stored inside. No Injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation by the Byram Twp. Police Department.

BUST DAY OF MUTUAL AID ASSIGNMENTS
Byram Fire started off the Day with a mutual aid assignment to Stanhope for the air truck for a house fire.  A few hours later Byram Fire received a second request mutual aid assignment to Wantage for the Air truck for another working house fire. 

In the process of clearing the fire Wantage command asked Byram Fire to Assist Branchville Fire at the Scene of a 2 Car MVA.

Birch Rd House Fire
Byram Twp. Fire Department along with Lakeland EMS were dispatched to Birch Road for the possible Electric Fire.  Upon arrival of Engine 1, the size up revealed a working fire in the walls from the basement to the attic.

Chief 2 requested Mutual aid RIC team, 3 tankers to the scene and an engine to the fill site at the Park and Ride on Rt. 206. 

Crews managed to stay one step of the rapidly advancing fire and contained the fire to the middle of the house in the walls.  No injuries were reported. 

Mutual aid from Stanhope, Netcong, Andover, Boro, Andover Twp. and Green twp.  Fire remains under investigation by the Byram Police and Sussex County Fire Marshal.

 About the Department:


The Byram Fire Department has approximately 50 members and responds to an average of 200 calls annually. The department covers 25 square miles of the Township which includes the communities of Cranberry Lake, Lake Lackawanna, Forest Lakes, Lee Hill and Lake Mohawk. The department provides fire protection services to the homes and businesses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
